STAG
a new short film by Kevin Newbury
written by Donna Di Novelli
In the summer of 1963, fifteen-year-old tomboy Francesca (Sarah Steele from The Good Wife, Please Give, and GIRLS) investigates the mysterious comings and goings in the family basement, the off-limits domain of her father (Peter Rini from Orange is the New Black).  Her mother (Rachel Jett) leads her to believe that the neighborhood men gather there on Fridays to play cards. The mystery deepens as she encounters locked doors and closed curtains. In a bold move, she hides out in the basement. What she witnesses there will change her vision of the world forever.

The New York International Short Film Festival (NY Shorts Fest) showcases the finest short-form cinema from around the world to enthusiastic audiences in the vibrant filmmaking enclave of New York City.

NY Shorts Fest offers short-form filmmakers an ideal platform to screen their film and gain recognition in the heart of New York City. NY Shorts Fest premiered Ricky Gervais ‘Derek” in 2012, which became a popular British television show written, directed and starring Ricky Gervais. The series is now available on Netflix.

NY Shorts Fest feels that short form cinema and its creators should have their own premiere film festival in New York deserving similar recognition given to the feature film and its creators.

Award-winning film needs your help!
STAG just had its WORLD PREMIERE at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Film Festival last Thursday andTEXAS PREMIERE at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival on Saturday, where won the GOLD REMI AWARD in the Dramatic-Original category.  We are off to a GREAT start, but we need your help!
As independent filmmakers, the burden of creating the film, marketing, and finding screening opportunities falls on our shoulders. We are working tirelessly to get this wonderful short out to the world and with this effort, there’s also a financial burden we have.

We launched an INDIEGOGO campaign so you can help our endeavor.

We’re currently submitting the film to festivals around the world and have already received invitations to festivals based on our rough cut! In order for the film to reach a wider audience, we need to raise at least $20,000 to cover post-production—creative and labor costs and administrative costs for film festival submissions.

New York Festival of Song

Rick sings again.  rick

This from Allan Kozinn in the Wall Street Journal.

“a stirring baritone aria with neo-Romantic heroics and monumentalism at its core from Christopher Theofanidis’s “Heart of a Soldier,” an opera about Rick Rescorla, a retired Army officer who died saving others in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.”

We’ve just wrapped our movie, STAG, filmed on location in New London, Connecticut.

A teenage girl in the early Sixties, investigates the mystery of her Father’s basement.  An homage to the black and white movies of the era, STAG looks at how we steal pleasure, any way we can.

Produced by Electric Roots, LLC and Principe Productions.  Going into post-production.  Stay tuned for rough cut and production stills.

STAG

We’re making a short film this summer in Southeastern Connecticut.  Home of Electric Boat. Home of Eugene O’Neill.  Home for a new group of film makers.  The film is called STAG and it’s about how we change when we sit together in the dark and watch films.  It’s written by me; directed by Kevin Newbury and starring Sarah Steele and introducing Rachel Jett.  STAG is produced by Electric Roots in association with Principe Dynamics.

And we could use your help.  Please join our family of supporters and make a tax-deductible donation at
